Informatics Europe is the European association of university departments and research laboratories in the field of computer science, information technology and computational sciences. It represents the academic research community in informatics across Europe. By bringing together diverse sites, it creates a strong common voice to secure and shape high-quality research and education in informatics in Europe.
Now the Institute Industrial IT (inIT) at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts has become the first German member of a university of applied sciences. "Information technology is one of the most important factors for technological innovation. The key, so to speak, to a successful future for the European economy. We are pleased to now be a part of Informatics Europe and to do our part with our research work at inIT," says Institute Director Professor Volker Lohweg.
The non-profit organization was founded in 2006 with headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland and now represents over 140 members from 32 European countries. Members are essentially faculties and institutes comprising university departments of computer science, computer and data science, IT, ICT and industrial IT. Represented are public and industrial research institutes, as well as national associations in Europe.
In addition, Informatics Europe collaborates with scientific organizations such as the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the Computing Research Association (CRA).
