Mob-ln-Ovo: Entwicklung einer mobilen Vorrichtung zur Geschlechtsbestimmung bei befruchteten Eiern
01.01.2021 bis 30.06.2023
A new innovative method for sex determination on hatching eggs enables animal welfare-friendly rearing of laying hens without killing millions of male chicks.
For the first time, the minimally invasive measurement method applies fluorescence spectroscopy specially designed for the hatching egg, in which only UV-light interacts with the egg. An algorithm system on machine learning theoretical basis is able to determine the gender from the measured multidimentional data.
The aim of the project is to increase the ratio by at least 90% for eggs incubated for only a few days by optimizing the novel method. The further development of the mobile measuring device is to be used nationwide, especially in small and medium-sized hatcheries.
