Since August 3, there are two new faces in the team of the Institute for Industrial Information Technology (inIT): Sarah Böttger (33) and Jean-Pierre Bauer (23) have started their training as IT specialists with the specialization application development at the institute. How differently the two found their way to this training profession and what their daily routine is like, they tell in an interview:
How have your first two weeks at inIT been?
Jean-Pierre: I like it here very much. I like the premises and also the exciting tasks we have been given so far for the beginning. For example, we were already allowed to program and had to give a presentation about the individual institutions on the Innovation Campus Lemgo. That has helped us a lot to get to know the location better here. I feel very comfortable here. At the moment, of course, there are special circumstances with the COVID19 conditional mask obligation: We start our training with three days of home office.
Sarah: I also found the first weeks very good. The tasks we were given were great. What I really appreciate here is the peace and quiet when working. I sit together with Jean-Pierre in one office. The working atmosphere in the entire institute seems very good to me. We have great technical conditions with which you can work in the best possible way.
How do you like the atmosphere here?
Jean-Pierre: I find the environment really impressive: with the SmartFactoryOWL and all the modern buildings. The facilities and therefore also the possibilities available to us are really special.
What did you do before the traineeship?
Sarah: I dropped out of my studies in "International Business Studies" and started my own business. Since I financed from liquid assets, my 1st company was a low-budget enterprise. I did everything myself, including my website. That's how I got into the world of web development and programming. That's when I got totally hooked, a whole new world opened up for me and I found my home, which I was looking for before. This is simply my world, when the editor turns on and when I see programming language, my heart beats faster. IT is the dream job for me, because in IT everything is possible.
How did you hear about the inIT?
Jean-Pierre: I already did my internship for my school education at the inIT. So I was here for eight weeks and was able to make contacts and get to know the environment.
Sarah: I found the apprenticeship through the training atlas and was extremely happy when I saw the position. I can already tell that the focus here is on learning something, being taught a lot, and being a part of the whole. If you want to become an IT specialist, then you simply have the best prerequisites here.
What does your day-to-day work and the alternation between theory and practice look like at the moment?
Jean-Pierre: We currently have two attendance days a week at the institute. The other days we are in the home office. At the moment, you always meet people first with a mask on and you notice that it is very quiet in the house. I find that very unfortunate and of course it makes it difficult to get to know people. But the job makes it possible to work from anywhere. If we have questions at home, we can always contact our instructors and get help.
Sarah: I also think that inIT does a really great job considering the circumstances. We've been talking to our instructors a lot. We were given a lot of tasks and the tasks that we have to do on our own anyway, we can do well at home. The school part doesn't start until December. Then we are in school for several weeks at a time.
What are your goals for the future?
Jean-Pierre: After my training, I could well imagine studying in this field. I would also like to do this in cooperation with inIT. I would definitely like to stay here because I find the research projects and the working model so interesting.
Sarah: I can also imagine staying here. I'm planning to quit. Our final exam in the apprenticeship is a project that we can choose ourselves and I already have a pretty precise idea and plan to start a company.
