Increasingly complex production processes on the one hand and increasing product individualization on the other hand require a high level of knowledge and skills from assembly employees today in order to be able to carry out the increasingly variant assembly processes without errors. The use of digital, projection-based training and assistance systems represents a promising opportunity to offer employees flexible qualification and further training options and thus to counteract the shortage of skilled workers.

Sebastian Büttner, who was employed as a research assistant at the Institute Industrial IT (inIT) at the TH OWL from 2015 until the end of 2021 and researched there in the field of industrial assistance systems, dealt with precisely this topic in his doctoral thesis. The scientist successfully defended his dissertation entitled "Projection-based augmented reality assistance in assembly" on May 04 at the Clausthal University of Technology with the grade "very good". The examiners included Prof. Dr. Michael Prilla from TU Clausthal, Prof. Dr. Michael Fellmann from the University of Rostock and Prof. Dr. Carsten Röcker from TH OWL.

"With his doctoral thesis, Mr. Büttner has hit the mark and developed important design recommendations for projection-based AR assistance systems for industrial activities. On behalf of the entire inIT team, we congratulate him on this success and on the new PostDoc position at TU Clausthal. We are looking forward to a good continued collaboration with Dr. Büttner and Professor Prilla," says Prof. Röcker.
