inIT project MetalClass at the 24th IEEE Real Time Conference in Quy Nhon, Vietnam

The 24th IEEE Real Time Conference (RT2024) took place from 21 to 26 April 2024 in Quy Nhon, Vietnam. This prestigious event was organised by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) and its technical committee "Computer Applications in Nuclear and Plasma Sciences (CANPS)" at the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE). The conference was dedicated to the latest advances in real-time processing, data acquisition, transport and processing techniques in areas such as nuclear and particle physics, nuclear fusion, astrophysics, medical physics and imaging, real-time safety and security systems, and general radiation instrumentation. The Institute Industrial IT (inIT) of Technische Hochschule OWL (TH OWL) was also represented there.

Poster session and short presentations

A highlight of the conference was the large poster session, accompanied by short presentations. The poster session not only offered insights into current research work, but also promoted interdisciplinary exchange and the establishment of potential collaborations. Participants had the opportunity to submit their research results for publication in the journal "IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science".

Contribution of the inIT project MetalClass

Helmand Shayan, research associate at Institute Industrial IT (inIT) at Technische Hochschule OWL (TH OWL), presented his poster entitled "AI-Based Online Spectral Classification of Copper Alloys using PGNAA" as part of the poster session. These research results are part of the MetalClass project, which was carried out at inIT by the "Mathematics and Data Science" working group under the leadership of inIT board member Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann. AiNT GmbH was involved in the project as a coordination partner and Wieland Werke AG as an associated partner.

Helmand Shayan summarised the event positively: "Participating in the IEEE Real Time Conference provided us with an excellent platform to present our research results to an international audience and receive valuable feedback."
