Declared goal of the trip was to strengthen the East Westphalian-Japanese collaboration in the field of scene analysis of assistant systems as well as Human-Machine-Interaction, one of inIT’s research focuses. On his trip professor Röcker visited various institutes, like e.g. Keio University, the Interactive Media Design Lab and the Cybernetics and Reality Engineering Lab of the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), the Computational Intelligence Lab and the Control System Lab at Toyota Technical Institute. Besides lectures about the Industry 4.0 topics Augmented and Virtual Reality, Röcker always looked for the professional exchange with the Japanese colleagues, Post-Docs and (PhD-)students. Five interesting weeks with a variety of impressions lie behind the researcher from Lemgo who could notice many similarities among the German and Japanese Industry 4.0 research work: “Over the longer run we are interested in collaborating with a couple of the universities and institutes visited, so that further opportunities for research and teaching could occur”, so Röcker.
