Innovative models for safety-critical applications
As part of his research work at the Institute Industrial IT (inIT), Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann has worked intensively in recent years on developing new types of machine learning models that integrate prior physical knowledge, particularly in the form of ordinary and partial differential equations, into data-driven models. Among other things, this innovative approach makes it possible to estimate uncertainties in predictions, which is particularly useful in safety-critical areas and with few known data points. In addition, the models are so efficient that they can be used in real-time applications.
Research is teamwork
Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann has been Professor of Mathematics and Data Science at TH OWL since 2018 and has built up a strong working group at inIT, to which he is very grateful. "The TH OWL offers me a great research environment in which I can realise my projects. I received excellent support from my colleagues right from the start. But research is always teamwork: without my working group, it would not be possible to successfully advance research in this form," says Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann.
Commitment to research and teaching
In addition to his research work, Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann is also head of the Bachelor's degree programme in Data Science. He is committed to involving students in research projects at an early stage and teaching them about the latest developments in the field of data science.
The entire inIT team is delighted with the award and congratulates Prof. Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann on this success.
