(Lemgo, 17.01.2017) “FactoryHack2017” – what sounds like a criminal act is in reality a digital coding festival that takes place in East Westphalia-Lippe at the first weekend of March. At the world’s biggest industrial Hackathon, creative minds from IT and Engineering Sciences are invited to develop useful, innovative or rather entertaining software products.

Coding teams take over SmartFactoryOWL at the world’s biggest industrial Hackathon in East Westphalia-Lippe – FactoryHack2017.

Hackathons usually take place in dark halls. But in the opinion of the researchers from Lemgo, coding in bleak environments is antiquated. Because of this they will open the SmartFactoryOWL for FactoryHack2017. “Where else could new, innovative products and software solutions be better tested than in a real production environment?” explains Sybille Hilker, CIIT Director and organizer.

Young and high professionals can develop creative product ideas at real production plants in Lemgo. A real benefit for all participants, say the organizers who want to attract the brightest minds to the technology region East Westphalia-Lippe. “We want to convey the expression of how interesting and innovation the environment of the production technology and the players involved is – not more, not less”, says Hilker about the coding festival. “We have achieved a great deal when our guests from all over Europe have had fun, got to know the region East Westphalia-Lippe and stored us as a great location for research, studies and employment.”

Silicon Valley Mentality in Lemgo
FactoryHack – this means a smart and innovative digital 42-hour festival. Participants may expect a coding and event location that is bigger than three soccer fields: At the research and development center CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) and at the high tech factory SmartFactoryOWL of the Fraunhofer Society and OWL University the teams will program on an area of 12,000m². The participants will spent a weekend working on their ideas from the fields of Smart Factory and Industry 4.0. Students, lateral entrants, designers as well as experts – everybody is welcome at FactoryHack. Programming and fun with the challenges is the most important part.

Industry meets Digital Natives
The guiding principle of FactoryHack is characterized by creativity, cooperation and innovation. More than 300 international programmers, developers, students and digital natives will come together to meet experts from industry, research and development. Jointly all participants work on visions and innovations about the production of tomorrow. The most creative ideas will be awarded with a jury prize and an audience price.
