Aims and content of the AI Academy OWL

The aim of the AI Academy OWL is to promote public understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and to counteract the often distorted portrayal in the media. Four main target groups are addressed: students, society, corporates and academia. One focus is the development of guidelines for companies in order to fulfil the requirements of the EU AI Act.

Prof. Dr Markus Lange-Hegermann from inIT emphasises: ‘The KI Akademie OWL offers an excellent platform for teaching artificial intelligence in a practical and understandable way. It will be crucial for both companies and society that they are given clear guidelines for the responsible use of AI.’

Participation of inIT and foundation of the AI Academy OWL

Prof. Dr. Barbara Hammer from Bielefeld University is the project leader of the AI Academy OWL. At inIT, the main responsibility lies with Prof Dr Markus Lange-Hegermann. He is supported by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Büker, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite, Prof. Dr. Volker Lohweg, Prof. Dr. mult. Carsten Röcker and Prof Dr Henning Trsek. Together they combine their expertise to successfully achieve the goals of the AI Academy OWL.

Stimulating dialogue and bringing research into the conversation

The project will be accompanied by formats such as hackathons, exhibitions, lectures and social media activities to raise public awareness of AI. These activities are designed to make the opportunities and risks of AI understandable and to stimulate a broad discussion.

Funded by the BMBF

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). This funding enables the long-term and sustainable realisation of the research project.
