The daaap network, a leading initiative for the promotion of professional participation through technology, recently visited the Innovation Campus Lemgo at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Carsten Röcker (inIT) and Eckard Bicker (delta3) to discuss the latest developments and potential applications of digital assistance systems and to gain an insight into the Campus' research activities in this area.

Carsten Röcker opened the afternoon with an exciting keynote speech on his research area of Human-Technology Interaction and presented the digital assistance systems that his working group has developed together with partners such as Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and delta3 GmbH and successfully implemented in various application environments to make the world of work more inclusive.

The short theoretical part was followed by a tour of the SmartFactoryOWL. Victoria Mordaschew, project manager at SmartFactoryOWL, led the guests through the various research stations in the factory. A highlight was the demonstration of the XTEND|assembly system. The stationary system supports manual assembly by projecting step-by-step instructions directly onto the workstation or workpiece. Text, graphics or video sequences are used and can be operated with simple gestures. 3D cameras record the user's movements and the environment, facilitating interaction and enabling accurate documentation of work processes. The system is particularly suited to work environments where complex assembly processes need to be carried out accurately and efficiently.

The subsequent discussion provided ample opportunity for questions and an exchange of experiences, interfaces and potential collaborations. Carsten Röcker emphasised: 'Today's exchange with the daaap network was very enriching. It shows how important the dialogue between research and application is in order to continuously adapt our research to the real needs of practice. This is the only way to have applied research with real added value'.
