Welcome with a look at the future of machine vision
Prof Dr Volker Lohweg, the chair of the day, opened the colloquium with a warm welcome: ‘I am delighted to welcome you all here to the Innovation Campus Lemgo for BVAu 2024. The purpose of today's colloquium is to shed light on the latest aspects of computer vision: In particular, we are looking forward to presentations that combine classical 2D and 3D image processing with deep learning to tackle complex industrial challenges. We have put together a varied programme and are looking forward to interesting presentations and lively discussions’. Prof Dr Volker Lohweg hosted the day together with Christoph-Alexander Holst.
Keynote on the topic of high-resolution image-based 3D surface analysis
This year's keynote speech was given by Prof Dr habil. Christian Wöhler from the Technical University of Dortmund. In his presentation entitled ‘High-resolution image-based 3D surface analysis’, Prof Dr Christian Wöhler provided exciting insights into the latest image processing techniques with reference to lunar and Martian landings. He explained in detail how these technologies not only improve the accuracy and efficiency of industrial measurement and inspection processes, but also open up new possibilities for automation technology. His presentation impressively demonstrated how 3D reconstruction methods can contribute to solving complex tasks and what role they will play in the future of industrial image processing.
Practical insights from ten expert presentations
A total of ten presentations in three thematically structured sessions highlighted important machine vision topics. The first session focused on AI-based anomaly detection and demonstrated the use of artificial intelligence to detect unexpected patterns in industrial processes. The second session highlighted innovative automation techniques that use computer vision to increase the efficiency and accuracy of automation processes. The third session focused on advanced 3D reconstruction methods that open up new possibilities for quality control and production monitoring.
Guided tour of SmartFactoryOWL and exciting evening programme
During a guided tour of the SmartFactoryOWL, participants had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the innovative research environment on the campus. During this informative tour, Prof. Dr. Volker Lohweg presented several demonstrators.
This was followed by the joint evening programme with the partner colloquium Communication in Automation (KommA). The first stop was the All Electric Society Park at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg. Here the guests were able to experience interactively how sustainable energy solutions are implemented in practice.
The day ended with a joint conference dinner at the historic Kesselhaus Lemgo. The dinner provided an opportunity for participants to continue their dialogue in a relaxed atmosphere.
