Annual Colloquia "Kommunikation in der Automation" and "Bildverarbeitung in der Automation"

The annual colloquia "Kommunikation in der Automation" and "Bildverarbeitung in der Automation" took place this year at the beginning of November in the SmartFactoryOWL at the Innovation Campus Lemgo. More than 100 participants discussed new industrial communication technologies such as convergent real-time communication networks, cyber security, 5G and information models as well as machine learning methods, data augmentation and process real-time classification in image processing in the context of intelligent automation.

Real-time communication and image processing represent important basic technologies for networked technical systems and are thus also closely linked to the activities in the technology network "Intelligente Technische Systeme OstwestfalenLippe (it's OWL)".

The aim of the two annual colloquia is to bring together experts from science and academia to discuss and advance current trends and new topics. This year, the joint evening event at the Brauhaus Strate in Detmold also served this purpose.

The 13th annual colloquium "Kommunikation in der Automation - KommA" is the forum for science and industry in the German-speaking region for all technical and scientific issues related to industrial communication. It is organized by the Institute of Industrial IT (inIT) of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts (TH OWL) and the Institut für Automation und Kommunikation (ifak) e.V., Magdeburg, alternately in Lemgo and Magdeburg. The event is also supported by the Gesellschaft für Informatik. Conference leaders are Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite, board member of inIT and director of the Fraunhofer Institute in Lemgo, and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Jumar from the Institute ifak e.V. in Magdeburg. The KommA participants agreed that, on the one hand, there are very many mature technologies for communication in automation. On the other hand, there is still a considerable need for research and development in the cyber security of networked systems and the convergence of office and factory IT.

The bi-annual 8th Annual Colloquium "Bildverarbeitung in der Automation - BVAu" of the inIT focuses on the latest developments and technologies of machine vision in the context of industrial automation. The colloquium is supported by the "Initiative Industrielle Bildverarbeitung OWL" and Arbeitswelt.plus. The conference is chaired by Prof. Dr. Volker Lohweg, Director of the inIT. The experts will discuss new techniques on saliency and metrics for objective evaluation of anomalies in materials. Two other central topics that were intensively discussed were object detection in complex environments by deep learning and data generation by artificial structures.
