The increasing quality requirements for plastic pipes require an increasing level of automation in pipe extrusion lines. Pipe extrusion lines have a high degree of process consistency and have to enable an economic production of tubes with small tolerances. Thus, the machine complexity and the operating requirements increase. The early detection of faults in the extrusion process and their prompt correction by changing parameters is of great importance. Therefore, extrusion lines are equipped with many sensors to assist the operator in monitoring the process.
The aim of this project is to detect faults on the extruded tubes’ surfaces by using information from the machine and an optical inspection system in order to classify them and enable traceability of the fault classes.
