OWL University of Applied Sciences takes the protection of personal data very seriously. We have therefore taken technical and organizational measures to ensure that data protection regulations are complied with. All web activities are carried out in accordance with the applicable legal provisions on the protection of personal data and data security. Our security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments. However, we cannot guarantee complete data security when communicating by e-mail, so we recommend sending confidential information by post.
§ 1 Information on the collection of personal data
(1) In the following, we inform you about the collection of personal data when using our website. Personal data is all data that can be related to you personally, such as name, address, e-mail addresses, user behavior.
(2) The responsible party pursuant to Article 4 (7) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (DS-GVO) is the OWL University of Applied Sciences, Campusallee 12, D-32657 Lemgo. You can reach our data protection officer at our postal address with the addition "the data protection officer" or at datenschutz(at)th-owl.de.
(3) When you contact us by e-mail and/or via the contact form, the data you provide (your e-mail address, your name, if applicable, and your inquiry) will be stored by us in order to answer your questions. We delete the data accruing in this context after the storage is no longer necessary or restrict the processing if there are legal retention obligations. The legal basis is Art. 6 I (a) DSGVO in conjunction with the Higher Education Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW), as you consent to the above processing of your data when you send us an inquiry by e-mail. You have the right to revoke the consent given at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent. § 2 Your rights
(1) You have the following rights vis-à-vis us regarding the personal data concerning you:
- In accordance with Art. 15 DSGVO, to request information about your personal data processed by us. In particular, you can request information about the processing purposes, the category of personal data, the categories of recipients to whom your data has been or will be disclosed, the planned storage period, the existence of a right to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing or objection, the existence of a right of complaint, the origin of your data if it has not been collected by us, as well as the existence of automated decision-making, including profiling, and, if applicable, meaningful information about its details;
- in accordance with Art. 16 DSGVO, to demand the immediate correction of incorrect or completion of your personal data stored by us;
- pursuant to Art. 17 DSGVO, to request the erasure of your personal data stored by us, unless the processing is necessary for the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and information, for compliance with a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims;
- pursuant to Art. 18 DSGVO, to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data, insofar as the accuracy of the data is disputed by you, the processing is unlawful, but you object to its erasure and we no longer require the data, but you need it for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims or you have objected to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 DSGVO;
- pursuant to Art. 20 DSGVO, to receive your personal data that you have provided to us in a structured, common and machine-readable format or to request that it be transferred to another controller;
- in accordance with Art. 7 (3) DSGVO, to revoke your consent once given to us at any time. This has the consequence that we may no longer continue the data processing based on this consent for the future
(2) If your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests pursuant to Article 6 (1) sentence 1 lit. f DSGVO, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data pursuant to Article 21 DSGVO, provided that there are grounds for doing so that arise from your particular situation or the objection is directed against direct advertising. In the latter case, you have a general right to object, which will be implemented by us without specifying a particular situation.

§ 3 Collection of personal data when visiting our website
(1) In the case of merely informative use of the website, i.e. if you do not register or otherwise transmit information to us, we only collect the personal data that your browser transmits to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the following data, which is technically necessary for us to display our website to you and to ensure its stability and security (legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. f DSGVO):

(3) In the cookie, information is stored that arises in each case in connection with the specific end device used. This does not mean, however, that we gain direct knowledge of your identity. The use of cookies serves on the one hand to make the use of our offer more pleasant for you. For example, we use so-called session cookies to recognize that you have already visited individual pages of our website. These are automatically deleted after you leave our site.
(4) In addition, we also use temporary cookies to optimize user-friendliness, which are stored on your terminal device for a certain fixed period of time. If you visit our site again to use our services, it is automatically recognized that you have already been with us and which entries and settings you have made so that you do not have to enter them again.
(5) On the other hand, we use cookies to statistically record the use of our website and to evaluate it for the purpose of optimizing our offer for you (see section 4). (7) Most browsers accept cookies automatically. However, you can configure your browser so that no cookies are stored on your computer or a notice always appears before a new cookie is created. However, the complete deactivation of cookies may mean that you cannot use all the functions of our website.
§ 4 YouTube
On this page, videos from third-party providers are embedded as content via the video portal "YouTube" of YouTube LLC with headquarters at 901 Cherry Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. By clicking on a video and the associated use of YouTube, your data may be processed by "YouTube". If you are logged in with your user account at "Google/YouTube" at the same time as retrieving the video, YouTube can track from which subpage of our website the video is retrieved. If you would like to prevent this data collection, please log out of YouTube before visiting our site or accessing the video. Details can be found in the terms of use of "YouTube" and, since "YouTube" is a "Google" company, the privacy policy of "Google".
The legal basis is Art. 6 I (f) DSGVO. Our legitimate interest results from the fact that we offer you an informative added value about our activities or about information of professional interest to you by embedding the videos. For our part, no data is stored from you in the process. If you would like to completely prevent the collection of data by Google, you should refrain from viewing the videos. By embedding and retrieving the videos, there is no interference with your fundamental freedoms.
§ 5 Use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
The online presence of the OWL University of Applied Sciences does not use any direct embedding of social media plugins (e.g. Like buttons) of the social networks Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Thus, no data is transmitted to external social networks when you call up the websites. Only when you click on icons/symbols/links of the social networks on the websites of the University of Applied Sciences and call up the pages linked via them do you leave the websites that are the responsibility of the OWL University of Applied Sciences and calls to external websites take place in accordance with the conditions of the respective provider/social network.
We would like to point out that user data may be processed outside the European Union. This may result in risks for users because, for example, it could make it more difficult to enforce the rights of users. With regard to U.S. providers certified under the Privacy Shield, we point out that they thereby undertake to comply with EU data protection standards.

In the case of requests for information and the assertion of user rights, we would also like to point out that these can be asserted most effectively with the providers. § 6 Other functions and offers on our website
(1) Personal data processed in the course of using the website of the OWL University of Applied Sciences is generally not passed on to third parties.
(2) In individual cases, we use external service providers to process your data. These have been carefully selected and commissioned by us, are bound by our instructions and are regularly monitored; this is done on the basis of a contract in accordance with Art. 28 DSGVO.
(3) Furthermore, we may disclose your personal data to third parties if this is necessary to carry out the educational mission, to enforce our rights under the regulations of the German Code of Criminal Procedure (StPO) or for the purpose of asserting claims for damages in the event of copyright infringement and the investigation of criminal offences, as well as to advise and support our students.
§ 7 Data security
Within the website visit, we use the widespread SSL procedure (Secure Socket Layer) in connection with the highest encryption level supported by your browser. As a rule, this is a 256 bit encryption. If your browser does not support 256-bit encryption, we use 128-bit v3 technology instead. You can tell whether an individual page of our website is encrypted by the closed key or lock symbol in the lower status bar of your browser.
We also use appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against accidental or intentional manipulation, partial or complete loss, destruction or against unauthorized access by third parties. Our security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments.
